Spirit of the Beehive are back with a new EP. I’m So Lucky arrives September 1 via Saddle Creek. The Philadelphia electro-psych band have shared two songs from the record, “Tapeworm” and “Natural Devotion 2,” which arrive with a shared music video. It’s directed by Daniel Patrick Brennan, and you can check it out below.
After the EP comes out, Spirit of the Beehive will hit the road for a brief U.S. fall tour. The eight-date leg begins on September 5 in Cleveland, Ohio and will come to an end in Brooklyn, New York on September 15. Find Spirit of the Beehive’s tour dates below.
I’m So Lucky marks Spirit of the Beehive’s first music since Entertainment, Death in 2021. The EP includes four tracks, with “Natural Devotion 2” serving as a sequel to the track of the same name from You Are Arrived (But You’ve Been Cheated), their 2015 EP.
The trio started recording I’m So Lucky during a transitional period in their lives. Last summer, members Zack Schwartz and Rivka Ravede ended their romantic relationship of more than a decade, putting the future of the band in jeopardy. “For the first three or four months after it ended, it was pretty rough,” said Schwartz. “I don’t know if anybody was sure we would continue doing the band. But then we sorted it out slowly and we just all wanted to get back to work.”
